In Case You Missed the TMD Regional Meetings

In December 2019, the Tourism Marketing District (TMD) conducted its bi-annual TMD Regional Meetings with General Managers and Directors of Sales & Marketing from TMD hotels in all five regions of the City of Los Angeles.

Chairman Javier Cano, General Manager of the JW Marriott and The Ritz Carlton L.A. LIVE, provided an overview of the current TMD Board of Directors with representation from all regions. With a current vacancy in the Hollywood region, the Board is looking to fill that vacancy at the next TMD meeting. Chairman Cano also shared the projected TMD budget for Calendar Year 2020, of which 70% will continue to fund marketing programs and 20% to sales programs. Lastly, he presented several large tradeshow events that L.A. is confirmed to host, or is actively bidding to host, which the Board recently approved to fund. These events include: IPW in 2024 (confirmed), Connect in 2022 (pending), ASAE in 2025 (confirmed) and HelmsBriscoe in 2026 (pending).

Los Angeles Tourism VP of Tourism Insights Wendy Kheel shared lodging metrics for L.A. County and its individual regions for 2019 from January thru October, providing insight to the new hotel supply coming online to L.A in the year ahead and beyond. VP of Hotel Sales Bryan Churchill presented sales production trends and programming, sharing an update on the upcoming Experient Envision event taking place in L.A. March 16-20, 2020.

Los Angeles Tourism CMO Don Skeoch VP of Brand Marketing John Boudouvas provided insights on current market performance against L.A.’s peer groups including San Diego, San Francisco, NYC and Chicago. They also provided a recap of the recent TMD hotel promotions that took place in fall 2019.

As a reminder, TMD meetings are an opportunity to provide feedback and input on the programming efforts conducted by Los Angeles Tourism to improve business at your TMD hotel. We encourage you to attend these meetings and share your valuable feedback.
